Sergio Figueiredo (Master in music education - Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, Ph.D. - Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia) is Associate Professor at the Music Department of the State University of Santa Catarina - UDESC, Brazil. His research interests are: school music education, foundations of music education, initial and continuing teacher education, assessment and choral music education. He is a member of the National Committee of Culture Incentive (CNIC) in the Ministry of Culture in Brazil. He was president of the Brazilian Association of Music Education – ABEM between 2005 and 2009. He was a member of the directory of the National Association of Research and PostGraduate Studies in Music (ANPPOM) in Brazil. He was co-chair and representative for Latin America in the Research Commission of the International Society for Music Education - ISME (2010 – 2014). Sergio was a member of the ISME Board (2012-2016), serving at the the Executive Committee between 2012 and 2014.
