Daniel Hellman is a professor of music education in the music department at Missouri State University, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on music education teaching methods, foundations, philosophy, psychology, contemporary issues in music education and research. His research interests include preservice music teacher education, social and emotional learning, education policy, and instrumental music. His work is published in the Arts Education Policy Review, Journal of Music Teacher Education, Music Educators Journal, Update: Applications for Research in Music Education, Journal of Research in Music Education, Research and Issues in Music Education and the Southeastern Journal of Music Education. He also serves on the editorial board of the Missouri Journal of Research in Music Education and on the boards for the Society of Music Teacher Education and the Policy Commission of ISME. Prior to his university teaching, Daniel taught high school and middle school band and fine arts in Louisiana. He holds degrees from Northwestern State University of Louisiana and the University of Southern Mississippi.
