Dr. Caroline Blumer is a Brazilian music educator and Jazz musician based in London, Ontario, Canada. In her doctoral studies, Caroline explored Intersubjectivity related to inclusion, self-perception , and pedagogy in musical contexts. Alongside her work as a jazz singer and musician, she is a researcher and educator interested in popular culture, diversity, improvisation and critical pedagogy, as well as philosophical, educational and practical issues involving musical environments wherein people with (intellectual) disabilities experience music-making. In Brazil, Caroline has worked with individuals with disabilities and/or on the Autistic Spectrum within inclusive musical theatre and K-12 education. In Canada, she is part of the Quest Program leadership team, an adult educational program for individuals with developmental disabilities offered by L’Arche London. Caroline also runs the program Music Across Culture, which provides opportunities for people of all abilities to learn songs and engage with the cultures of diverse countries. In 2024, Caroline joined the ISME Special Education and Music Therapy Commission team as one of the commissioners.
