Alethea de Villiers lectures music education and arts education at the Nelson Mandela University, South Africa. She also lectures musicology and music history modules. She has extensive experience in the creative arts and professional development for teachers. She has written texts for schools and has published on music education policy. She is a reviewer for a number of South African accredited journals as well as international journals . Her research interests include citizenship education, education policy, teacher education, identity, protean careers, multicultural education and ethnomusicology. She is an active member of ISME, SASRIM and SASMT.
